Computers….ahhh they suck

The past three days, my laptop has been all farked up bad kitty. Normally, that would not be something that affects Branden, aside from hearing the story. But this week, it has been a bitch. I think we finally got most of his issues fixed, and Branden had to retrofit his a bit to hopefully prevent something like that from happening. Getting ready for travel next week as well.

Welp, I’m off to watch Family Guy and then sleep. Going to try and make tomorrow SUPER productive.

Katrina, Katrina

I know that the news has been covering this extensively, and that some people are glued to the teevee and some have completely turned off and disconnected. Unfortunately, those who did not have the resources or ability to leave New Orleans have no such luxury. Some have provided additional information and resources, some have merely been only able to wait. The devastation becomes more apparent everyday, not only in the physical destruction in the aftermath, but in the human and social element. There are even speculations on the timing, which dig deep into prejudice and fear. Why the breakdown in disaster relief occurred (or delay, depending on the side of the levee you are sitting on) will no doubt be reviewed semi-exhaustively, but very little of this situation should come as a surprise to anyone. What should also come as no surprise is the resiliency and willingness to help those less fortunate that most Americans share. Most local areas have been contacted with specific items to donate and of course the Red Cross is accepting donations for hurricane relief. My thoughts are with those who need help and all of those who are trying to provide help for this natural disaster.

Power problems

Definitely been a while since my last post, and now seems like as good as time as any to start again, so here we go.

Lately my cell has been low on battery much too often. Which is weird because I plug it in most nights and, if I notice it being needy, I charge it in my car. But it’s become much more of a nuisance. I think Jennifer mentioned something to me about her phone (which is the same model) having a power problem and if mine had been acting up. It wasn’t at that point but I was becoming much more worried this week.

Until tonight.

I came home with a low battery and went to plug the phone in the wall charger (because Toyota decided to only allow the cigarette socket to be powered when the car is on versus Chevrolet who lets you utilize that jack at all times, but I digress) and noticed that the wall charger wasn’t actually plugged into the wall socket. And probably hasn’t been for at least a week, maybe longer. I think I might have found the reason my cell phone has been blinking red at me.

It’s okay, just shake your head and laugh, I am.

Leather Pants and Moustaches Galore

Living in the liberal center of the country for three years, which is actually as far left on the map as you can get without falling into the ocean, I saw my fair share of cultural tolerances. These mismashes of lifestyles and choices and whatever other words are “coined” to describe human nature were always interesting and I believe are a part of the great dichotomy of ideas in the Bay Area.

Austin has a similar environment on a much smaller scale, but I still had to laugh at the stereotypical opposition of this weekend’s major events:

The ROT Harley Davidson Rally (some 40,000 motorcycles)
and
The annual Texas Gay Pride Parade

Someone in the scheduling office has a sense of humor.

Look through the artwork

Hotel rooms seem to have all the same ammenities from place to place. A bed to lay your head on. A shower to refresh from a long day or wake up for a longer one. A television with pay per view channels you will enjoy. But one thing they seem to lack is interesting artwork. The themes are mostly regional and the prints of landscapes banal. The next time you are traveling and staring at the walls in your hotel room, imagine what might be under the corporate sanctioned mediocrity.

Glorious Days

As reported by CNN.com:

Weezer’s entry ended the three-week second-place stint of Mariah Carey’s “The Emancipation of Mimi” (Island/Def Jam), which dipped to No. 3 with almost 173,000 copies.

This still doesn’t justify the lackluster dmb album selling twice as many copies as weezer’s album, but at least there is some justice in the world.
